Construction of the Sustenso biodigester in the Boekelermeer area of Alkmaar began on Friday, April 8. It was a festive occasion, as the production of sustainable, local gas is more important than ever. Anaerobic digestion is one of the possibilities within the energy transition facing the province of North Holland, and it could therefore be financed by the Sustainable Economy Participation Fund North Holland (PDENH), together with Rabobank Noord-Holland Noord. <\/strong><\/p>\n This first Sustenso project is being built under the leadership of Hans van der Weide and Willem Bas, the project’s management. With financing from PDENH and Rabobank, a digester with a capacity of 100,000 tons of green waste per year is being realized there. The digester is expected to be commissioned in early 2023. <\/p>\n Bart Blokhuis, Fund Director of PDENH: “Current global developments make autonomy over sustainable energy more important than ever. With financing from PDENH, we are contributing to the production of green gas and accelerating the local energy transition. \n<\/strong>The biodigester is capable of producing 7 to 8 million cubic meters of green gas per year, which can heat approximately 7,000 households. The green residual flows come from local farmers and consist of waste from greenhouse horticulture, cocoa residues, grain residues, and roadside grass.
