Crowdfunding platform Invesdor has completed another major citizen participation project. Following the success of Frysl\u00e2n Wind Farm<\/a>, there was also great interest in the Westermeerwind wind farm. <\/strong>Within a period of less than five weeks, nearly 600 local residents took the opportunity to participate financially in the wind farm. <\/strong>Subscriptions exceeded the offer of 5 million euros in bonds by more than two times. <\/strong> <\/p>\n

For and by the polder<\/h6>\n

Westermeerwind Wind Farm is a wind farm ‘for and by the polder’. Therefore, only residents of the municipalities of Urk, Noordoostpolder, and the former Lemsterland could subscribe to these bonds. To raise the intended funding, Westermeerwind Wind Farm collaborated with Invesdor: the largest pan-European investment platform for sustainable and social enterprises. The project was live on the platform for a month, and interested local residents aged 18 and older could register via gavoordewind.nl. <\/p>\n

Fairly distributed<\/strong><\/h6>\n

Both large and small investors showed great interest, resulting in the bond issue being heavily over-subscribed. The maximum offer was 10,000 bonds (totaling \u20ac5 million). However, local residents collectively subscribed for over \u20ac10 million. 61 percent of investors were allocated their full request; due to the previously published distribution model, the largest investors were allocated a maximum of 25 bonds of \u20ac12,500 each. All subscribers have since received an email from Invesdor stating the number of bonds allocated to them. <\/p>\n

Truly benefiting<\/h6>\n

Director Bert Bult of Westermeerwind Wind Farm is pleased with the enthusiastic reactions from local residents. ‘In 2018, local residents were first given the opportunity to participate financially in the wind farm through a share or loan fund. It is wonderful that there is so much enthusiasm again for the second bond fund this spring after the repayment of the first loan fund. With the 7.5 percent return on these new bonds, local residents can truly benefit from the wind farm, as we have always promised.’ <\/p>\n

Support for energy transition<\/h6>\n

Ellen Hensbergen, Managing Director of Invesdor Benelux, sees this successful financing campaign as a positive step forward in the energy transition. ‘This enormous interest proves once again that local residents are keen to invest in the energy transition. Establishing this financing hand in hand with the community creates support for the realization of the energy transition.’ <\/p>\n

About Westermeerwind Wind Farm<\/h6>\n

Westermeerwind Wind Farm is located in the IJsselmeer along the dikes of the Noordoostpolder. The wind farm consists of 48 turbines of 3 MW and has a capacity of 144 MW. This is comparable to the electricity consumption of 160,000 households. <\/p>\n
