The ASN Energie & Innovatiefonds is providing \u20ac10.7 million to Duurzaam Verbonden for a portfolio of eight sustainable heat and cold projects. The project financing relates to seven operational projects and one project under construction, contributing to the further sustainability of the built environment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Duurzaam Verbonden is the heat company of Duurzaam Opgewekt. Duurzaam Opgewekt operates sustainable heat and cold facilities for homes and other buildings. The installations are not only operated but also designed and built in-house. In doing so, it brings together development, realization, and long-term heat supply.<\/p>\n

Sustainable heat and cold from the ground
\n<\/strong>The portfolio consists of eight ground-source energy systems at various locations in the Netherlands. With Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES), heat and cold are stored in the ground and used at a later time to heat or cool buildings.<\/p>\n

For private customers, the system thus provides cooling during warm summer periods in addition to sustainable heat. No consumption is charged for the cold supplied; users do pay a standing charge in accordance with the applicable ACM rates. The supply of cold simultaneously helps to rebalance the energy extracted from the ground during the winter.<\/p>\n

Seven projects are already operational and one project is in the realization phase. The portfolio comprises a total of approximately 1,600 home equivalents in houses and commercial units.<\/p>\n

Financing that aligns with heat infrastructure
\n<\/strong>The heat transition requires significant investments in infrastructure. Heat projects involve relatively high initial investments, long durations, and cash flows that develop during operation. As a result, regular financing structures do not always align well with the economic lifespan and development of these projects.<\/p>\n

The ASN Energie & Innovatiefonds therefore does not finance each project individually, but rather multiple projects within a single portfolio. The financing combines operational heat projects with a project under construction. This creates a structure that aligns with the long-term characteristics of sustainable heat infrastructure while simultaneously offering diversification across different projects, locations, and customers.<\/p>\n

The financing secures the long-term funding of the existing heat projects, supports the realization of the project under construction, and creates financial room for the further development of Duurzaam Opgewekt’s heat portfolio.<\/p>\n

Our role in the deal
\n<\/strong>StartGreen Capital is the investment advisor to the ASN Energie & Innovatiefonds. For this transaction, the investment team structured the financing and coordinated the due diligence process. In doing so, the technical, legal, and financial risks of the various projects were assessed as a single portfolio.<\/p>\n

Based on this, a financing structure was developed that fits the long-term character of heat projects. StartGreen also supervised the transaction and closing process.<\/p>\n

The Duurzaam Opgewekt portfolio combines existing, operational heat and cold facilities with further expansion, thereby contributing to the further sustainability of the Dutch heat supply.<\/p>\n
