ASN Energy & Innovation Fund
The ASN Energy & Innovation Fund invests in proven new technology that is essential for the energy system of the future, such as energy storage, charging infrastructure, circular production, sustainable mobility, and energy-efficient buildings. The fund finances projects in the Netherlands through loans and equity investments. The combination of financing instruments (equity or debt) makes it possible to offer tailor-made solutions. This increases the opportunities for innovative initiatives to get off the ground and achieve lasting sustainable impact.

The goals of the ASN Energy & Innovation Fund are:
- Accelerating the energy transition
- Driving innovation to promote a sustainable society.
The ASN Energy & Innovation Fund contributes to the following Social Development Goals (SDGs): Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Climate Action (SDG 13).
Due to its sustainable objectives, the ASN Energy & Innovation Fund is an Article 9 fund within the meaning of the SFDR.
For whom?
The ASN Energy & Innovation Fund finances projects and enterprises in the following domains:
- Clean energy generation, such as onshore wind, solar energy, and bio-energy
- Clean network technology such as energy storage, grid management, battery technology, and hydrogen
- Clean energy and circular production, such as fuel alternatives, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and circular manufacturing
- Sustainable mobility, such as EV infrastructure, green hydrogen, and micro-mobility
- Built environment, such as heating/cooling, energy efficiency, and construction technology
This concerns proven new technologies that are essential for the energy system of the future.
Financing instruments:
Through StartGreen Capital, the ASN Energy & Innovation Fund offers a broad mix of financing instruments, tailored to the needs of sustainable projects and enterprises:
- Loans (senior debt):
Suitable for projects with a stable risk profile and predictable income streams, such as operational solar and wind farms.
Advantages: lower costs and longer maturities, ideal for sustainable projects with stable cash flows, as the financing is aligned with the long-term income and operational stability of the project. - Subordinated loans (junior debt):
For projects requiring more flexibility in their financing structure, such as innovative technologies in the energy transition or circular construction concepts.
Advantages: more flexibility in the financing structure and a greater chance of obtaining additional financing from other parties. - Equity (project equity):
For accelerating and realizing sustainable initiatives from developers of sustainable projects.
Advantages: financing certainty for project realization while preserving own resources, focus on growth and impact.
Criteria
For equity
The investment must contribute to the sustainability objectives.
The ticket size is between EUR 1,000,000 and EUR 10,000,000. In certain cases, the maximum may be exceeded.
The investment is structured as a passive investment (limited control) with sufficient minority protection.
The investment can only be provided to enterprises and projects in the Netherlands.
For loans
The financing must contribute to the sustainability objectives.
The ticket size is between EUR 1,000,000 and EUR 10,000,000. In certain cases, the maximum may be exceeded.
Loans have a maximum term of 20 years for senior debt and 10 years for subordinated debt.
The financing can only be provided to enterprises and projects in the Netherlands.
