Sustainable Economy Participation Fund North Holland
The Sustainable Economy Participation Fund North Holland (PDENH) is a fund of the Province of North Holland and invests in innovative companies and projects that contribute to the sustainable economy of North Holland. With a fund capital of €85 million, PDENH focuses on the energy transition, circular economy, and sustainable mobility. The fund was established in 2014 and has since supported dozens of startups, SMEs, and sustainable energy projects with growth capital. Both financial and social impact are central to its mission.

PDENH is managed by ROM InWest, KplusV, and StartGreen Capital and collaborates with other funds and investors to accelerate sustainable innovation. Since September 2023, PDENH has been a closed-end fund. Since then, it has focused on follow-on investments in existing portfolio companies.

PDENH is a closed-end fund that focuses on follow-on investments in existing portfolio companies. Over the past twelve years, the fund has financed established and startup companies. This includes companies looking to further expand their business model with proven technologies, or startups wanting to prove their value with surprising innovations. The fund is specifically intended for companies and projects that provide an extra boost to the sustainable economy and focus on:

Instruments
The fund provides equity and debt in the form of seed capital, project financing, startup capital, and expansion capital. This is done through shares, (cumulative) preferred shares, and (subordinated) loans. The fund provides this capital from €250,000 up to a maximum of €7,000,000.

PDENH was established in 2014 by the Province of North Holland.

Criteria

The general criteria for participation are:
The project or company contributes to the sustainability goals of the fund and thus to those of the Province of North Holland.
The project or company is established in and benefits (the economy of) the Province of North Holland.
The business case is transparent, feasible, and supported by a solid operational calculation.
The project or company has a dedicated, honest, and competent management team.
There is no doubt regarding the (legal) basis of the project or company.
The project or company generates sufficient returns with acceptable risks.
