The ASN Energie & Innovatiefonds, for which StartGreen Capital acts as investment advisor, has provided a multi-million euro loan to Powercrumbs, an innovative company that converts unused biogas into clean energy for the construction sector. Thanks to this financing, Powercrumbs can expand its number of filling stations from four to twenty, thereby scaling up the supply of sustainable energy nationwide.
The ASN Energie & Innovatiefonds provided debt financing to the Arnhem-based biogas supplier Powercrumbs, with StartGreen Capital acting as the fund’s investment advisor. At the same time, Powercrumbs also received an additional capital injection from its existing investor, Unknown Group.
About Powercrumbs and its growth plans.
Founded in 2019, Powercrumbs developed a patented technology to compress biogas generated during the fermentation of residual materials and make it suitable as a sustainable fuel. Biogas producers, such as water treatment companies, can thus utilize all the biogas produced, making unnecessary flaring a thing of the past. Powercrumbs supplies the biogas to construction sites, where gas generators generate clean electricity for excavators and other machinery. In this way, Powercrumbs provides a practical solution for nitrogen-sensitive areas and locations facing grid congestion.
Powercrumbs has successfully developed its technology in recent years in collaboration with partners such as Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe, Buse Gas, GMB, and Bredenoord. The company currently has four filling stations and aims to grow to twenty locations over the next 2.5 years. The scaling up also includes the development of a green gas installation with which residual gas can be upgraded for delivery to the natural gas grid. This expansion of its infrastructure enables Powercrumbs to deliver consistently and on a larger scale.
