Borski Fund has completed an investment in ShanX Medtech. The Eindhoven-based medtech company is developing an innovative diagnostic platform for ultra-fast antimicrobial susceptibility testing, allowing physicians to determine the most effective treatment within one hour.
The investment is part of an oversubscribed seed round of €15 million, supplemented by public funding and European support, through which ShanX has secured a total of €24 million in financing. With this capital, ShanX will accelerate the final development, clinical validation, regulatory approval, and commercial market launch of the SXM diagnostic platform, which is already attracting significant interest from healthcare and industry partners.
Groundbreaking technology for a major challenge
ShanX’s technology addresses one of the greatest challenges in global healthcare: antimicrobial resistance (AMR). ShanX Medtech is transforming the treatment of infections with ultra-fast antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) performed directly from samples.
Using novel chemical methods to monitor the metabolism of microorganisms, ShanX delivers comprehensive results within an hour with minimal user involvement. This is a groundbreaking improvement over current methods, which require multiple trained technicians and take days before actionable results are obtained.
By enabling faster, evidence-based treatment decisions in both laboratories and point-of-care settings, the platform has the potential to improve patient outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, combat the spread of AMR, and strengthen pandemic preparedness.
Sophia E. Shanko, Founder & CEO ShanX Medtech:
”We founded ShanX Medtech following the story of a single patient, which made it clear how much is at stake when diagnostic results arrive too late. Our vision is to empower every clinician to act decisively based on real-time diagnostic data. This funding brings us significantly closer to delivering ultra-fast AST directly to both laboratories and point-of-care settings; faster, simpler, and more accessible than ever before.”
Simone Brummelhuis, Partner at Borski Fund:
”We are very pleased to announce this investment in Eindhoven-based ShanX Medtech. After an extensive market analysis of innovations in the field of antimicrobial resistance, ShanX’s technology clearly emerged as best-in-class. Although the company’s initial market entry strategy focuses on a well-defined application for women’s health in urinary tract infections, the underlying platform offers significant potential for a wide range of clinical indications. We are proud to support Sophia and her exceptional team in realizing their ambitious vision. The oversubscribed funding round, combined with multiple commercial contracts worth millions of euros, underscores both the strength of the technology and the proven commercial prowess of the founder.”
